Our hospital (372 system beds) is one of the largest district hospitals in the region with a focus on specialty care. In addition to the Department of Internal Medicine, there are the following specialties: primary departments for general and visceral surgery, anesthesiology and intensive care medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, otolaryngology, neurology, pediatrics, trauma surgery, urology, psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine, as well as the institutes for radiology and nuclear medicine. Orthopedics is a specialty focus.

With 135 beds, the internal medicine department at the hospital is the largest independent internal medicine department in Tyrol (95 systemized general internal medicine beds, an additional 6 beds in the intensive care unit, 4 beds in the palliative care unit and 30 beds in the AG-REM unit). It has the broadest range of services of all district hospitals with a self-sufficiency rate of 98% and is a teaching department for the medical universities of Innsbruck, Graz and Vienna.


In addition to the four general internal medicine wards and the units mentioned above, there is a cardiology focus with a cardiac catheter laboratory and a pacemaker center, as well as a highly frequented endoscopy unit.
There is also a modern dialysis and oncology ward and various special outpatient clinics.


The head of the department is also responsible for the medical management of the hospital laboratory. The team of the internal medicine department consists of 24 doctors (including 14 specialists and senior physicians). The department is a training center for cardiology, intensive care medicine, gastroenterology, hemato-oncology and nephrology and has 11 training positions.

The nuclear medicine institute is an independent service area within the hospital. The nuclear medicine service area covers all common nuclear medicine examinations except PET. The equipment includes a SPECT-CT dual-head camera, an SD camera, a gamma probe, an SD uptake measuring station and a modern ultrasound device.

From January 1, 2025, the orthopedics specialty and the trauma surgery department will be merged to form the orthopedics and traumatology department. For this reason and because of simultaneous retirements, 2 specialist positions for orthopedics and traumatology are being advertised. The orthopedics and traumatology department has 37 systemized beds.


In addition to the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, there are the following specialist areas: primary departments for general and visceral surgery, anesthesiology and intensive care medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, ENT, internal medicine with physiotherapy and rehabilitation, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine and urology as well as the institutes for radiology and nuclear medicine.

The department is responsible for providing outpatient and inpatient care in the East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia region. The region is characterized by intensive winter and summer tourism. Our main area of ​​responsibility is traumatological care for the local population as well as holiday guests, with a focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques. The trauma surgery department is a local, certified trauma center and is part of the Carinthia/East Tyrol trauma network. In addition, the treatment of orthopedic conditions with endoprosthetic care for the hip, knee, shoulder, hand and finger joints is also offered, as well as foot surgery and hand surgery with all reconstructive procedures.


It is possible to obtain the specialist title in orthopaedics and traumatology and the diploma specializing in hand surgery in the hospital.
